Like many of us, Randi Zuckerberg posted a family snap to Facebook this Christmas. As with many of our snaps, it was funny in context, but a little too candid; you might not want it shared widely beyond your family. Unlike many of our snaps, it contained a billionaire brother in the background.

Randi was outraged when the snap got broadcast to subscribers, who proceeded to share it on other social networks. She got outraged on Twitter. As a result, the photo she was talking about became widely disseminated. And there you have it: even the greatest luminaries on her brother’s billion-strong network cannot always navigate their way in the choppy waters of social media privacy.

Internet addictions — especially to social media — have been well documented. And the truth is, we’re feeling like we might have a touch of Facebook addiction.

But what’s the psychology behind this disorder?

As it turns out, receiving and answering a notification results in a hit of dopamine, a chemical neurotransmitter associated with the motivation and reward response in the human brain. Dopamine is also released in high quantities when we consume drugs or have sex. Social media notifications can have the same addictive effect.

Google and LG may only have announced the Nexus 4 earlier this week, but the Android community is by far the most dogmatic in its quest to tweak and mod every aspect of the search company’s firmware, and already, a method for unlocking the device’s bootloader is ready and available; more details after the jump!

The tutorial is not too difficult if you’re accustomed to this kind of thing, but if you’re a bit of a noobie, make sure you read every detail to prevent any mishaps.

Coke Zero is at it again, teaming up with the James Bond franchise to tease the film series’ next movie. This time, they’ve orchestrated an elaborate stunt for unsuspecting train passengers to win exclusive tickets to see Skyfall, the 23rd installment in the 007 saga.

 

The stunt challenged people to race to a certain platform within 70 seconds, all the while dodging human obstacles throughout the busy train station.

Nicholas Allegra, known by his online handle “Comex,” will no longer be lending his talents to Apple. The noted hacker posted the news on Twitter, stating that after a year as an intern he is now no longer associated with the company, though not because he was outright terminated. In a second tweet, Allegra claimed that the reason for his departure was an overlooked email.

Further, most “social sharing” still happens outside of social networks.

From the very first email sent by researchers in Switzerland in 1971, to modern sites like Google+ and Pinterest, the Internet, and the valuable content it distributes, have always been social.
